The motto of Bournemouth is "Pulchritudo et salubritas" (in German "Beauty and health").

Bournemouth is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the English south coast, mainly due to its long, clean beach, plenty of accommodation, great entertainment, mild climate and easy access to the hinterland of Dorset and Devon. The coastal section is one of the warmest, driest and sunniest in the whole of England.
The population is 186,700, making Bournemouth, together with the neighboring cities, one of the largest trading and economic centers in the south of England.
Located near the city center, the Bournemouth International Center (BIC), which overlooks the sea and the pier of the town from the cliffs, is an important venue for conferences. This is where the party parties of the British parties take place.
In the vicinity of Bournemouth, many rare species of animals and plants can be found for Great Britain. The nearby Brownsea Island is one of the few places in the South where the red squirrel still holds. The ant formica pratensis was detected near Bournemouth until the 1980s, but apparently has now become extinct.
The main shopping streets in the center of the city are behind the coastal strip on either side of the small Bourne River. Many small paths lead through the gardens below (Lower Gardens) easy and fast to the sea. The shopping streets are almost all in the pedestrian zone, where numerous boutiques, large shops, jewelers and shops for fashion accessories have been established. In addition to the large department store chains (Debenhams, Beales, Marks and Spencer, BHS, Dingles), there are Victorian arcades between Westover Street and Old Christchurch Road, as well as hundreds of pubs, clubs, cafes, hotels and guesthouses.
In 2003 the Bournemouth Library was built for 9.5 million pounds sterling; She won the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Award.
The city also has a professional soccer club, the AFC Bournemouth, which has risen to the Premier League for the 2015/16 season for the first time. The home games take place at Dean Court in Boscombe.
Bournemouth Airport (IATA code: BOH) is located just north-east of Bournemouth on the site of the neighboring village of Christchurch.
Bournemouth has two stations on the South Main Line, one of which is north of the city center (Bournemouth Railway Station) and the other in the East (Pokesdown Railway Station). The south-western suburbs of Alum Chine and Westbourne are easily reached via a railway station ("Branksome Railway Station") in the vicinity of the neighboring city of Poole.
Connections to London are offered by National Express and Megabus.
Bournemouth has grown together with Poole in the west and Christchurch in the east, so that one speaks also of the Southeast Dorset Conurbation (conurbation southeast Dorset), which together counts about 390,000 inhabitants. Much of what the name "Bournemouth" carries carries him strictly wrong: the "Bournemouth International Airport" lies in the area of Christchurch, the "Bournemouth University" and the "Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra" are in Poole, and the frequently used The term "Bournemouth Bay" for the bay in which Bournemouth is situated is wrong because the bay is officially called "Poole Bay".
Within the city and to the neighboring towns are two bus companies. This is on the one hand "YellowBusses", which were purchased in 2005 by the French Transdev. On the other hand buses run by the company "Wilts & Dorset", which are predominantly red. Since there is no traffic, you can not change trains to the other company. The companies compete strongly - Wilts & Dorset, for example, has the only buses with air conditioning. Both companies have made massive changes in the line and price system in July 2006, which has caused great displeasure among the population and the corresponding headlines.
